Chagall: Fantasies for the Stage

  • Los Angeles County Museum of Art (map)

Join art muse Noelle Valentino in exploring Chagall's deep fascination with music, dance, and theatre. LACMA's Chagall: Fantasies for the Stage features Chagall's elaborate costumes and set designs for four theatrical productions: Aleko by Pyotr Tchaikovsky (1942), The Firebird by Igor Stravinsky (1945), Daphnis and Chloé by Maurice Ravel (1958), and The Magic Flute(1967) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In addition to these works, the exhibit highlights several of Chagall's most iconic paintings inspired by the theatre, as well as documentary footage from the original performances.
