Join Sarah Jones, art muse and contemporary artist, at the Hammer Museum for an artist's perspective on Italian artist Marisa Merz's first US retrospective. Merz is a world-renowned sculptor, painter, and installation artist who was most recently awarded the Golden Lion for lifetime achievement at the 2013 Venice Biennale. Merz's work frequently engages artistic and cultural modes of otherness, informed by her experience as the sole woman artist in Italy's avant-garde movement, Arte Povera. This exhibit features over five decades of Merz's work, from her early process pieces of scrap metal and salvaged wood to her multimedia installations to the large-scale graphic works that typify the last two decades of her career.
