Robert Irwin. Untitled. 1967. sprayed lacquer on aluminum disc
Robert Irwin, a pioneer of the Light and Space movement, wanted his artwork to be experienced as a full, embodied, and site-specific encounter, focusing on the viewer's direct experience of light, space, and their own perception. His work encouraged viewers to be present in the space, to be aware of their own visual field, and to question their assumptions about seeing.
Join Art Muse LA at Pace Gallery as we experience Robert Irwin in Los Angeles, an exhibition of historically significant paintings and sculptures produced between 1960 and 1971.
Rani Singh will lead this visit to explore the works through focused study, deep looking and conversation, the way they were meant to be seen. Singh focuses on strategic planning and legacy management for artists and artists’ estates. She brings her personal recollections to this experience of Irwin's work.
A selection of short films will follow. Refreshments will be provided.
