ISSUE PREVIEW

Art Muse LA Premium’s April Issue is on breaking with tradition in both the figurative and literal senses of the phrase. This month Art Muse LA will be focused on the Transcendental Painting Group (TPG) – with a current show at LACMA – and we’ve arranged 3 programs on the topic. Our issue begins with an article on TPG accompanying more information about LA-based artist Caris Reid who is inspired by the group – we’ll be holding a sunset cocktail program at her studio. As we move into other topics for this issue, you’ll find a contemplative opinion piece on the media sensation surrounding Jeff Koons’s shattered Ballon Dog. In addition, we have folded in a self-guide to viewing work at The Getty Center from women artists from the 16th–21st centuries who all faced familial and societal pressures while simultaneously building an artistic career. A highlight is Barbara T. Smith’s exhibition, The Way to Be, at The Getty Research Institute. After your self-guided tour at The Getty Center – next up is our advice column on how to find and access non-traditional art spaces. Our lifestyle section this month is a great start to building and transforming your art reference library (a must for every art enthusiast). If you want to dive deeply into non-fungible tokens, we highly recommend the last book on our list, The Story of NFTs. Lastly, we top everything off with our on-rotation list of groundbreaking songs that were the “first” of a kind in categories you might not have known existed!

Before we leave you to your reading, we’d like to remind everyone that April is our last free issue of Art Muse LA Premium. Starting May 1, 2023, we will transition to a subscription service. Plans and pricing will be announced at the end of this month.

Enjoy!
