Egon Schiele, Self-Portrait with Brown Background (1912) Gouache, watercolor, and pencil on paper. Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Gift of Kallir Family

Art Muse lecturer Erika Esau offers an “insider’s” tour of Austrian Expressionism and Otto Kallir, drawing on her extensive knowledge of Viennese and German art, as well as her memories of working with Jane Kallir and Hildegard Bachert while writing Esau’s dissertation.  In October 2025, LACMA announced this extraordinary gift of more than 130 works of Austrian Expressionism from the family of Otto Kallir, including the Museum’s first paintings by Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, and Richard Gerstl to enter the collection.

Museum entrance not included with tour.
