PART 8 | Ladies of the Nile

Much has been said about the influence that queens had on ancient Egypt. But the influence of female royalty, or of other women from the elite classes, has been unjustly overlooked. Art Muse Chloe Landis will explore the ways that women of the royal court went beyond influence over fashion to sew political intrigue and even hatch murder plots. Beginning with a discussion of what scholars have called a “harem”, this program will explore the socio-political, economic, and ideological ways in which women affected politics. They played key roles in shaping Egypt’s ideological, socio-political and economic policies, thereby establishing the powerful influence women have had on the king for thousands of years.
