PART 2 | Portrait of the Egyptian Queen Nefertari

Queen Nefertari, the Great Royal Wife of Pharaoh Ramesses II, is one of the most famous queens of ancient Egypt. She was known for having one of the most elaborate temples and a tomb dedicated solely to her, unprecedented for queens in Egyptian history. Nefertari's tomb was famously discovered in 1904 by Italian archeologist Ernesto Schiaparelli and her funerary objects were housed at the Museo Egizio in Turin, Italy, but now are touring around the United States. This virtual talk with Art Muse Chloe Landis will explore images of the queen to demonstrate Nefertari’s remarkable role in ancient Egyptian history and to illustrate how women in Egypt were able to gain political and ideological power.
